About Sutter
Quality. Precision. Reliability.
Sutter Instrument has set the highest possible standards of performance and innovation. Every aspect of our product development is focused on delivering premium devices specifically designed to enable researchers to extend beyond the technological barriers of their research.
Each instrument is manufactured on-site at our facility in Novato, CA under strict quality control and undergoes a rigorous electronic and/or mechanical testing protocol. Our machine shop is one of the finest precision machining facilities in Northern California, employing state-of-the-art CNC machining and turning centers for production of precision mechanical components. This allows us to rapidly develop products, make continuous improvements, and customize any of our products to the needs of our customers.

Dale's Journey
The vision for Sutter began in 1974, when Dale Flaming developed the BV-10 Microelectrode Beveler. That beveler would go on to be the first product sold by Sutter Instrument, which was incorporated in 1977 in Dale's garage.
That same year, Dale developed the P-77 micropipette puller, the first digitally controlled puller on the market. The P-77 revolutionized the field by allowing precise, repeatable control over micropipette production, providing scientists with the reliable tool they needed for critical research.
